Writing Poems

What are poems?
A poem is a special type of writing that uses beautiful and creative language to share feelings, ideas, or stories. Poems can be written in many different ways. Some poems rhyme, while others don't. Some have a set rhythm, and some are free-flowing. No matter how they are written, poems are all about expressing emotions and painting pictures with words.

Many of our TaleTree friends love reading poems, and a lot of them also like to write their own! One of our campers, Seah, wrote a haiku for a class project and shared it with us. A haiku is a type of poem that comes from Japan and has three lines with a 5-7-5 syllable pattern. Seah's haiku reads:

Trolls are up at night,
Deerfoxes are filled with joy,
The sound of dryads.

Isn't it amazing how Seah's haiku creates a magical scene with just a few words?

Seah also shared a famous poem with us that she really enjoys. We asked all the members of our group how this poem makes them feel and what it means to them. It is so interesting to see how one poem can mean something slightly different to every person who reads it!

Poems have a magical way of connecting with our emotions and personal experiences. They allow us to find our own meanings and relate to the words in a way that fits us best. This is why reading a poem can be such a personal and unique experience for everyone. So, next time you read a poem, think about how it makes you feel and what it means to you. Maybe you can even try writing your own poem and share it with us! We can't wait to see what you create. Keep reading, keep writing, and keep sharing your amazing ideas with us!
