Scary Stories
Story-telling
Story-telling is the activity of writing, or telling stories. The special thing about it, is that you can tell a story you made up, or one that you have heard that you also want others to hear. At TaleTree, we do a lot of story-telling. Typically the children make up their own stories, but this week, we got to hear stories from kids that they were told by someone else, read somewhere, or watched on Youtube. It is amazing to see how stories foster kids imaginations, and how they are able to remember stories they heard a long time ago.
Even though we are way past Halloween, on Friday, the camps were centered around scary stories. Many of the kids said they do not enjoy watching scary movies, but they like scary stories because they know they are made up. Although some scary stories can be real, many of the ones we read online are made up simply for entertainment. One of our camp members, Jamilah, started the camp off by sharing a scary story that she had heard on Youtube awhile ago. It was a very interesting story, making us all ask questions about what would have happened to the girl if she had just stayed home. Another member, Seah, then shared a scary story she made up. She created a comic to go with it, and it was very well done. The comic had no words, but you could still piece together the story just by looking at the pictures. We encouraged the other members of the group to try to draw out their scary stories in a similar way to Seah, so that the kids who did not get to hear the stories during camp can still see them. Jamilah’s sister,Makayla also shared a scary story with us that she learned from Youtube. Jamilah had also heard this story before, and it made her want to write her own scary story. We love when kids are inspired by others to make new creations. We hope that Jamilah and Makayla will work together in coming up with a scary story; Jamilah will write the story, and Makayla will do the illustrations for it. Working together with another person is a great way to come up with new ideas, and try out new creations. We hope to hear more stories in the future, whether they be scary or not.
Let’s Create Messages for Families in Turkey
There was a really strong earthquake in a country called Turkey on Monday, Feb. 6th (2023). Sadly, many families lost their loved ones and many others are still trying to find their families through the wreckage of collapsed buildings. The whole world needs to help them. What can you do to help them? Donate! Pray for them! Create messages for the families, please!
My Favorite Pop Artist!
Some of us are ARMY, fans of BTS, fans of Blackpink, other bands or musicians. Sophie loves K-pop groups, especially BTS and Blackpink. She creates very cool art showing her passion for her favorite bands. Who is your favorite? How do you show your support for them?
Words Describing Your Best Friend
Valentine's Day reminds us of the people we love. Who is your best friend? Think of the friend and what are the words that come to mind? Draw a nice image about that person and give it to her/him. Show your feelings.
February 2023 Special Camp- Turning Your Story Into A Movie
Have you ever thought about making a movie? If not, maybe it's time to think of a story you want to turn into a movie. Many movie directors like to communicate their thoughts in sketches for their actors to be able to imagine and act. Draw one page of a movie. The movie can be a real-life story or a fiction (a made-up story).
Who is Doing What at Your Gym?
At Juyoung's gym for veggies and fruit, everyone is exercising hard. Notice the cherry sisters that are boxing with two veggies. A cucumber is practicing kicking and a pepper is working on sit-ups. What is in your gym and what are they doing?
