Challenge Yourself!

Won’t life be bland,
Without challenges to understand,
Each one a surprise,
Full of truth or lies,
Each making a different stand.

But it is by preference,
That challenges make sense,
If you show aversion towards them,
Challenges, if you condemn,
You will see through them like glass instead of a lens.

Well if everything were lined with ease,
And didn’t give our patience a tease,
How would we discern strain,
From an effort plain,
My brain, I still squeeze.

Challenges and opportunities are synonymous,
Without the other both are anonymous.

When we think of challenges, we often think of things that are difficult, time consuming, or tiring, but this does not always have to be the case. Challenges can be fun! Especially when they come to art. Many of you like to create the same things, or you stick with one specific art style. This is amazing because you have found what works for you, and you are able to express that through your art, but it also can be fun to try something new. Instead of always drawing the same thing, or leaning towards the same style, can you think of ways you can challenge yourself? Can you use the same art style to draw something new? Can you try out a new art style to draw the one thing you always like to draw? There are so many options, and we would love to see you guys challenge yourselves.

In camp New Delhi on Friday, we found out that the majority of our members prefer to draw girls over boys. This is not because they necessarily like girls better, but because they find it more difficult to draw boys. After finding this out, Sumi, the TaleTree founder, suggested that we all spend the last 15 minutes of camp drawing the best guy that we can. It definitely was a challenge, but everyone in the group loved it. They all surprised themselves with their drawings, and they realized that they all were better at drawing boys than they originally thought. When you cannot think of what to draw, try to think of things you find difficult to draw, and draw those. Your talents may surprise you, and most of you end up drawing a lot better than you thought you could. The more you practice the better you become. We would love to see all of the creations you challenge yourself with!

Mixed Media Art

Using different materials or media in art is called “mixed media art.” Many of you have done that already. Can you try to create another art piece, or your first one if you have not tried it before?

My Own Characters

We love to draw random stuff, and often times we create our own characters in our mind. can you draw your own character and imagine some stories around them?
