All About Clothes

Clothes Have Meaning

When you think of clothes, you prob just think of things that go on your body, such as as shirt and pair of pants, but clothes mean so much more. Many many years ago, people wore specific style clothing based on their culture and where they lived. Hayim, one our camp members, recreated an old Korean style dress out of paper. Her teacher at Korean school taught them all how to make it. We learned that she has even had the opportunity to wear that style of clothing before. Another one of our members, Ruby, brought up old Russian fashion. We looked up many pictures of what people in different countries used to wear back in the day. Sumi, our founder, gave a little history background on the meaning of clothing, and why each culture wore what they did.

Aside from creating clothing from the olden days, you guys come up with outfits for all of the characters you draw all the time. Through drawing different styles of clothing you guys are expressing yourselves. Many of you stick with the same style for all of your characters, and we love that because it makes it easy to know who the art belongs to. When you have a certain art style, as well as clothing style, we can tell whose creation is whose.

Very few people today dress to represent their culture daily, but this does not take the meaning away from clothing. Clothing is so powerful because it allows us to express ourselves. We all have our own unique styles, being able to choose what we want to wear everyday. The way you dress should make you happy. Clothing can express personality as well, allowing people to get to know you just through your clothes. They reflect who you are, and often times can even show how you feel at that moment. Next time you pick out your outfit, really put some thought into it. Think about why you are choosing certain pieces, and the reason behind why you want to wear that for the day. Clothes can be a lot more fun than we realize, and it is exciting to be able to play around with different outfits.

Fall Bouquet

One of the wonderful things about "fall" is beautiful leaves. Many trees become red and yellow. It's like a rainbow goddess has poured her paint all over the world accidentally. Our friend, Ellie, didn't want to dismiss the beauty of autumn. She collected fallen leaves and made a beautiful tiny bouquet. Can you find some fallen leaves and make your own bouquet to use to tell someone (maybe a bird?) you love them? :)

Make Something Practical with Lego

You might own hundreds of Lego pieces. Even then, you want to buy a new Lego set, every time there is a new set. Lego pieces never rot, or they are not usually recycled, because then you lose durability of the plastic. So what is the best thing to do with the Lego pieces you already have? You keep using them and also hand down to someone else if you end up growing out of them. Our clever friends use their Legos to make something quite practical. Can you create something practical you or someone else can use?

I am Doma! I Stand for Wellness.

Hi, I am Doma. I am a very athletic lizard. I love soccer, skateboarding, and swimming. Staying active makes me feel hungry for everything, so I eat everything on the table for each meal :) I am so tired by the end of each day, so I sleep as if there is no tomorrow. Haha. How about you? What is your favorite activity?
