How Things Work
Do you ever wonder how something works?
Everyone uses multiple different things a day, but we often do not think about how they all work. We shut off our alarm clock, turn on the shower, open the refrigerator, get in the car, cook a meal, and so many more examples, without wondering what makes it possible to do all of that.
Chan, one of our campers built a robot like machine that was most closely related to a clock. It ticked for a certain amount of time, and had hands, and minutes just like a clock. All of the members of his group even said it reminded them of a clock before we heard the ticking sound it makes. When Chan explained how the robot functioned, all of us were amazed. It was really fascinating to understand the process of the robot, and to learn from him how it operated. We asked the kids what they think works similarly to the robot, and our camper, Alice, asked if it could be anything with a clock. She was absolutely right. This made the kids realize that the some of the mechanics of the robot are similar to the mechanics of anything that tells time. Some examples are: microwaves, refrigerators, washing machines, and ovens.
Is there something that you wished you understood the mechanics of? Do you feel weird using things that you do not understand how they work? Try to think of something that interests you, that you want to better understand. Do some research on it, and bring your findings back to TaleTree. It is always fun learning about how certain things work.
Holidays are Approaching
As the holidays get closer, try to think of things that you are thankful/ appreciative of. Many of our campers have already started making holiday themed creations and we love seeing them. To give back this holiday season, try doing something nice for your parents! We have a few kids who enjoy making their parents breakfast in bed, or making creations with them! Think of something nice you can do for your parents this holiday season. Maybe you guys can make a holiday themed craft together. Whatever you do, we would love to see it, so be sure to post it to TaleTree.
Fall Bouquet
One of the wonderful things about "fall" is beautiful leaves. Many trees become red and yellow. It's like a rainbow goddess has poured her paint all over the world accidentally. Our friend, Ellie, didn't want to dismiss the beauty of autumn. She collected fallen leaves and made a beautiful tiny bouquet. Can you find some fallen leaves and make your own bouquet to use to tell someone (maybe a bird?) you love them? :)
Make Something Practical with Lego
You might own hundreds of Lego pieces. Even then, you want to buy a new Lego set, every time there is a new set. Lego pieces never rot, or they are not usually recycled, because then you lose durability of the plastic. So what is the best thing to do with the Lego pieces you already have? You keep using them and also hand down to someone else if you end up growing out of them. Our clever friends use their Legos to make something quite practical. Can you create something practical you or someone else can use?
I am Doma! I Stand for Wellness.
Hi, I am Doma. I am a very athletic lizard. I love soccer, skateboarding, and swimming. Staying active makes me feel hungry for everything, so I eat everything on the table for each meal :) I am so tired by the end of each day, so I sleep as if there is no tomorrow. Haha. How about you? What is your favorite activity?
I Am Rooty. I Stand for Safety!
Rooty is all about safety. Safety includes many things, such as preventing us from terrible accidents. Sadly, there was a big stampede on a narrow street in Seoul, Korea during the Halloween celebrations. The whole country of Korea is mourning, and many people from all over the world are sending warm messages to Korea. Would you be so kind to create a ribbon or an emblem to show your sympathy?
