The Importance of Feelings
What are feelings?
When I am happy, I laugh. Ha, ha, ha.
When I am sad, I cry. Boo, hoo, hoo.
When I am angry, I yell. Rats, rats, rats.
When I am down, I sigh. Ah, ah, ah.
Any way I feel, I can show it to you.
Do you ever feel the same way too?
Feelings are very important, and they are something we often explore during our camps. They are emotional states or reactions that we experience everyday. We often times will experience many different feelings throughout the day, and that is completely normal!
Many of us wish to feel happy all the time, but we need to remember that it is okay to be sad! Being sad allows us to understand our feelings, and know what is bothering us. We asked kids in camp on Friday who they go to when they are feeling sad, and many of them said their parents or friends. This warmed our hearts knowing that they trust their parents to go to them, and that they know their parents are always there to give them endless support. It is important to have someone to rely on for help, and it always best to get help when you need it!
One of our camp members, Mykayla, created an art piece centered around emotions, and we were so happy to see her make this. Her creation is what sparked our conversation on Friday. The piece had the quote “Emotions are more than they seem”, and she is absolutely right! Sometimes we struggle to understand our emotions, but we have to understand that we are not alone, and that many times other people are feeling the same way as us.
Another one of our camp members, Precious, wrote her own story. Many of the kids first impression was that the story was scary, and it was a perfect example to show them how to understand their feelings. It was great that both of these pieces were shared during the same camp because although they were very different, they allowed us to explore our feelings, and realize that they change all the time.

What’s the Story?
Once upon a time, there lived a dog and a cat. The dog was named Charlie, and the cat was Lily. Can you imagine what happens to them? Tell us your story.
“Stop Being Enemies and Start Being Friends!”
The people of Ukraine need help from the world. Weapons, drones, and other attacking devices may look cool, but they hurt people. What if we reinvented these things? What do you think they should be like?
