Great Creators
Storytelling
Not all creations have to be physical. This seems weird because I know we also tell you guys to post your artwork, and all of your creations, but what we love most, is when you have a story to go with what you created. That is what we mean by they do not all have to be physical; they can be verbal as well, and many of you sure do love to tell stories. All of you do create a physical drawing, painting, or sketch of the story that you made up, but the stories told capture a lot more than what we can see in the picture or series of pictures.
On Friday, we heard some wonderful stories from three of our camp kids, Yeonju, Jaeah, and Mykayla. Mykayla’s story was super fun because it was based off animals Yeonju had drawn, named Lily and Charlie. They ended up in a new dimension by going through a portal. Everyone loved her story, and she ended it with the perfect hook, leaving us eager to find out more. Yeonju drew a beautiful sleeping cat, and she had a super sweet story that went along with it. She told us the cat was sleeping there by the front door, waiting for its owner to get home. The owner made it home, but the cat was in such a deep sleep that she did not wake up, so she ended up waiting for nothing! Last but not least is Jaeah. She drew a sequence of drawings and told a story that reminded us of “The Ugly Duckling.” She had draw a momma duck with six of her ducklings, but one of them was different looking so they got left out. The duckling ended up slipping into the rain drain, while walking around the city with its family, and was dropped back out into the ocean. There, she met a pelican that helped her. We cannot wait to find out more as Jaeah continues to develop her story.
Coincidentally, all three of these stories were about animals, but a story can be about anything. We hear all different stories, ranging from stories about your favorite video game, your favorite holiday, your best friend, etc. The options are endless, and it is important to know that a story is just as much a creation as a drawing is.
