Secret Agents & Deep-Sea Divers

In light of not only the challenge topics but also because of our recent Special Camp, this week’s projects especially led to many thought-provoking conversations about the roles we can play to protect the environment and one another as well. Not only from the perspective of kids but as engineers, scientists, and designers!

While sharing about a trash-collecting robot that lives in the ocean, the kids started to wonder.. How can we make sure that no animals are harmed by the machine? What happens if a small sea creature gets stuck in the machine? And what kinds of materials can we use to keep the machine waterproof? Believe me when I say, it was like having a discussion with deep-sea explorers when they started problem-solving ways to design a safer, more streamlined system for their machines. After recognizing some design flaws, they implemented everything from the use of filters, robotic arms, and even different material technologies that could be useful underwater. By the way, this specific conversation started with one artwork by Javier and it became a successful collaborative effort!

Creativity isn’t just related to ideas that flow from brush to canvas or pencil to paper. It’s also about problem solving thoughtful ways for us to create a safer future, and it often takes a lot of teamwork to do that. We are so proud of our TaleTree kids for digging deeper into exploring the possibilities of how to become more thoughtful members of our greater community. Take a closer look at the kids’ inventions below.

And only if you promise to keep it a top secret, you can even take a close look at our undercover TaleTree Secret Agents’ special gear!

Challenge 1

You are assigned as a secret agent to protect the universe from an alien invasion. All details, including your own identity must be kept top secret! Design a set of tools, gadgets, and/or clothing that will help you go about fulfilling your mission without being detected.

Challenge 2

Animals suffer because of trash that people carelessly throw on the ground. Litter even goes into the ocean and harms sea creatures. Design a system that can help collect littered trash and/or protect wild animals from being hurt.

Challenge 3

Design a piece of clothing that can transform its use for different types of weather.

Kids’ own creations

Little Ones

  1. One day you discovered a beautifully wrapped glittery candy. As soon as you took one bite, it transported you to the North Pole! What kinds of adventures would you like to have in the North Pole? Do you meet any new friends? How do you travel from place to place?

  2. What would you do if you turned into a unicorn?
