Material Mayhem

When you sift through our Creative Camp kiddos’ creations from this week, you’ll find that there are an exceptionally varied range of materials in use. From aluminum foil and wooden chopsticks to glow-in-the-dark tape and bubble wrap, there seems to be an endless array of materials displayed in the blog this week. Stella was so clever to illustrate a drawing of Kenta sneaking away with his soda and then used bubble wrap to illustrate the overflowing bubbles from the drink! Elin re-used a plastic apple container by filling each cup with colored water to illustrate different areas of the deep sea. You’ll also spot a variety of sea creatures drifting to and fro ;-)

At TaleTree, we believe in the importance delving deeper into exploring creativity outside of the ‘norm’. By observing our surroundings and reclaiming one item to be used for a different purpose outside of its intended nature is a skill that translates into all aspects of life! These moments of acuity and improvisation are at the heart of our mission at TaleTree: to foster empathy, autonomy, and authenticity.

Challenge 1

Create a story about “Bob, the Cloud”, a character designed by Sofia (from our Seoul camp). What if you also designed a friend for Bob?

Challenge 2

Imagine one day you were out swimming in the ocean. Then suddenly, your arms and legs start to transform into tentacles that make you swim so much faster! Tell me what happens next.

Challenge 3

Do you remember our super slick, sports-loving lizard-friend Doma? He loves to spend time with his friends and sees everybody’s best qualities, and his skateboard is his sidekick. What other traits can you imagine about Doma? Do you have any similarities to him?

  1. Once upon a time, there was a boy named Kenta. One day, he sneakily took a bottle of soda without asking his mom and went into the storage room in the house. He was drinking the sparkly soda and all of a sudden, bubbles started oozing out of the bottle…..What happens next?
