Making Memories
Despite the hundreds of different projects and long weeks and months that have passed in our Creative Camp, our brilliant kids will often remember each others’ older projects and choose to respond to them with their own creations. Kate’s memory of Dylan’s project inspired her creation this week, and our Lima camp was so surprised at how her recollection of Dylan’s project was so highly detailed. As Kate presented her own twist on Dylan’s older artwork, the Lima camp kids started to remember additional details that brought on all kinds of laughter about the silliness of the old and new creations.
Moments like these with the kids may feel silly or inconsequential, but they actually validate the importance of sharing, connecting, and empathizing with one another. Dylan’s artwork left an impression on Kate’s memory, enough for her to be inspired to create her own rendition. Not only did this moment foster admiration and confidence for the group, but it also was a great way for the Lima camp to strengthen their ties despite the hundreds and thousands of miles amongst each other. Now, the entire group looks forward to collaborating on their newest goofy, smart ideas every week and take turns responding in their own ways.
By sharing memories of connections like these, the kids encourage each other to be even more creative, empathetic, and authentic to their true selves than ever before. Which of these projects inspire you? Try responding to it with your own creation!
