Thriving in Downtime
With many of our Creative Campers in the thick of Winter Break, this holiday season is much different than what many of us are accustomed to due to the limitations from Covid-19 on travel and larger gatherings. A lot of us want to be with family or atop a snowy mountainside sledding and skiing with friends but a lot of those plans are likely on pause. Despite these changes, many of our campers kept themselves busy by decorating their homes with handmade snowflakes and snowman ornaments while others dreamed of camping atop their family’s car in the front yard.
Although current events make it difficult for us to predict the kind of adventures we can embark on as winter break may normally allow, it’s become quite clear that there are so many things we can still look forward to doing within our own homes. Some of our campers look forward to weekly movie nights with popcorn while others make crafty projects with old crayons and salt dough. You’ll be surprised by how much inspiration you can find from mundane objects around the house! Not to mention, slowing down helps us appreciate what we have right in front of us--loving family, friends and even pets, too! Be mindful of your surroundings instead of searching around for what’s not yet there and see how this mindset allows you to thrive in other ways.
Sift through TaleTree challenges, and perhaps you will also gain some newfound inspiration for other creative pursuits! Which of these challenges below inspire you the most?
“Remember the blue sky. It may at times be obscured by clouds, but it is always there.”

Challenge 1
It’s the holiday season and what’s normally a festive time for many of us, this year is looking different. How will you spend the holidays with safety in mind?
Challenge 2
Imagine you are Santa...What gift would you give to your parents?
Challenge 3
Create a flower portrait using foliage from around your home.
Challenge 4
You may notice patterns around you that remind you of something else. A pasta on your plate can look like a fish escaping a shark, or a cloud can look like a soft bunny taking a nap. Pay attention to your surroundings and search for these details. Imagine a story behind it!
