Onward & Upward

Despite the chaos of this past year, one thing that positively stands out to our team at TaleTree is the commitment of our Creative Camp kids. Adjustment can be difficult, especially with all the curveballs this year, but they handled themselves well and kept busy in many different ways. Some tried their hands at stop motion videos while others tested out new ways of drawings digitally. A few kids built their own instruments with scrap materials and others played with sand, flowers, and leaves from their yards. We’ve shared so many conversations about passion projects and even mundane things, and through it all, we’ve grown a tighter bond with one another and with our creative selves within.

As the kids exchanged conversations throughout this year, we’ve been able to reinforce the ideal of our camp providing a safe space for expression of all sorts. Many of them experimented with new creative ideas and we learned to accept that things don’t need to be ‘perfect’, but rather, we should make a point to learn from what we can do differently in the future. Creativity comes so naturally for many of our campers but it’s also important to note that forward progression doesn’t just acknowledge what we are already good at. Progress is about searching within ourselves for something better and more refined, even if it’s something we’re already good at.

Team TaleTree cannot be more proud of our campers and their resilience through this wild year, for showing up each week to share, listen, and grow together with new friends. Our conversations often revolved around so many bold, forward-thinking ideas but also silly, impossible scenarios and realistically, both are very much an integral part of how we move forward even when life is throwing curveballs at us.

How will you choose to respond to a fresh start into the New Year? What talents or skills will you refine? And new ones to gain?

Bookworms Unite

Books are a wonderful way to learn stories about different places, people, and their cultures. Sometimes the stories are silly or they tell us about wild adventures. Other times they can tell you about important historical events.
