Fort TaleTree
As many of our campers were enjoying the tail end of their winter breaks, they took advantage of their extra time to build a fort in their homes. We are often more familiar with sharing projects that fit in the grasp of our hands, so seeing photos of how these campers interpreted this challenge was surprisingly refreshing and fun!
Yuna built a fortress for her treasure box that holds her prized possessions and arranged her big stuffed teddy bear to be the bodyguard for the fort. Luke built a dome-shaped frame with a stick and sockets then covered it with a blanket to turn it into a turtle-shaped fort. Aaron and Kevin both used furniture to prop up blankets, boxes, and pillows to create a special place where they could play games, read books, and take naps.
Sharing and hearing about these forts (and so many others) brought on interesting reflections of personal space and how we choose to use it, either by ourselves or with others. Some kids chose to build forts to play games with siblings, some for imaginary friends, and others for enjoying quiet time by themselves. Regardless of its intended purposes, each fort became a special place for the campers who made them. Blankets laid over the backs of chairs may seem quite ephemeral, but TaleTree believes moments like these define childhood memories where finding joy doesn’t have to be a grand affair.
If you’re reading this now, drop what you’re doing. Go make a fort. Bask in its comfort. See what we mean?
“See the world through the eyes of your inner child. The eyes that sparkle in awe and amazement as they see love, magic and mystery in the most ordinary things.”
