Birthstones and Birthdays
What is a birthstone?
A birthstone is a gemstone that represents a person’s period of birth, which is usually the month or zodiac sign. Zodiac signs are the twelve 30 degree sectors that make up the Earth’s 360 degree orbit around the sun. The twelve different sign overlap between months. For example, the sign of the Aquarius is from January 20th to February 18th. Our zodiac signs tell us a lot about ourselves, and the stones hold special meanings for the twelve months, with there being a different gemstone for every month. One of our camp members, Lily, showed us a collection of some of her crystals and rocks, and one of the ones she had in her jar is amethyst. Amethyst is the gemstone for February. Her crystals got us talking about gemstones, and figuring out what gemstones are connected to each month, as well as when each member of the group was born. Many people wear their birthstone either as rings, necklaces, or earrings, and it is said to bring them good luck. If you do not like jewelry, or do not prefer to wear it, having the stone in your possession can still bring you good luck. Birthstones are also said to bring good health and protection. Importance of Birthdays
Birthdays are so special because we get to celebrate the day we, or others were born. Some people do not like celebrating their birthdays, and that is okay, but it is still good to see the beauty in them and understand why people find them so important. The day we come into this life is so special, and people like celebrating the fact that you get to spend another year here! Getting older can be scary, but we are so lucky and fortunate to be able to age! Birthdays can be so fun and special that some people even host parties for their pets! One of our old members, Stella, held a birthday party for her dog, Nora. A few of our other members attended the party and said they had a lot of fun. It makes us happy knowing they enjoy celebrating their friends, as well as members of their friends families. We look forward to hearing more about how you all will celebrate your birthday this year if it has not already happened!
