Identity Map
Identity
Identity is a unique set of characteristics that are used to identify a person as themselves, and no one else. People may share similar characteristics, but everyone has their own identity that is not the same as anyone else. One of our long term camp members, Sasha, had to create an identity map for her art class. We thought this was a super cool project, and it made us all talk about identity. Sasha’s map was absolutely beautiful containing very pretty pastel colors, and a lot of things that she resonates with. That is the cool thing about an identity map; it does not have to be full of things that define you, but it can include things that you resonate with or that you like. Some things Sasha had were butterflies, music notes, and a river. She said the butterflies remind her of her childhood, and that she loves both music and water. When we asked other members what they would include in their identity maps, we got a wide array of answers. Kids said food, sports, family, music, school, their friends, and animals. It is so cool how we can all like similar things yet still have our own identities. We are able to identify many of our kids artwork, and that is one of the coolest things about identity. Everyone at TaleTree shares the same love for art, yet they all have their own unique art style. We are able to tell whose creation is whose, and it helps us to learn more about the creator. Art is the perfect way to express your identity. Maybe you can try to make an identity map just like Sasha. What would you include on yours? How do you think you can express yourself on paper?
Which musical instrument is your favorite?
In classical music, there are lots of different instruments, like the piano, violin, drum, and flute, that people use to make beautiful music. Do you have a favorite instrument that you like to play, or is there one that you would like to learn how to play? Draw a picture of it or find a picture online, and tell us why you love it or why you would like to learn to play it!
