Farming is Fun
All About Ecological Farming
This week we learned a lot about farming from our Special Camp guest, Reyna. Many of us may think that farming just consists of watering crops/ plants, and watching them grow, but there is so much more to it! Farming can be a full time job, and it can be done in a way that is sustainable to the Earth. Reyna practices sustainable farming, and she loves to give back to her community.
Our star during the Special Camp this month was Seah! Reyna had showed a video of a ton of different vegetables, as well as animals, and asked the kids to guess what they are. Seah knew the answers to almost every one, as well as background information about a few of the animals. She really amazed us with her knowledge, and it makes us happy to know she takes pride in learning about so many different animals.
Although we may think that animals would be bad for farming because they may eat the crops, there are many animals that are actually extremely beneficial in creating a happy, and healthy farming environment. When we think of snakes, we may be a bit frightened, but Reyna told us that she gets happy when she sees a snake on her farm. Certain species of snakes can be very beneficial because they feast on rodents that burrow into the soil, damaging the growth of many crops. Pollinators, such as bees, and butterflies, are also very helpful animals when it comes to farming. Bees and butterflies both help plants reproduce by transferring pollen from flower to flower.
As we continue to learn more about the world of ecological farming, it becomes clear that there is so much more to farming than meets the eye. It is not just about watering crops and watching them grow; it is a delicate dance between plants, animals, and the environment. It is important that we let these animals be and allow them to do their jobs, so we can provide for the planet in the same way it provides for us.

New Inspiration
Is it okay to copy someone else's art? Yes, as long as you give credit to the original creator. It can be a great way to practice and find inspiration. Take a look at this wonderful picture made by our friend, jetstar. It was inspired by the colorful, beautiful, and kind art of Eva Armisen. What kind of art do you like? Can you create your own version of it and say the name of the artist who inspired you?
Celebration Through Cakes
Who skips cakes for celebration! A beautiful cake makes a celebration so special. Our friends have made and drawn beautiful cakes. We would love to see if you have special cake ideas. Show us what you imagine or what you can make 🍰🧁
Make Your Own Flag
Flags have been used for identification or signaling to others. Each country has its own flag, and each state in the US has its own flag as well. Our camp friends love to draw awesome flags. We challenge you to create your own flag for your family, school, or friendship! :)
