You Are A Warrior

Our Creative Camp members show signs of all kinds of growth ranging from newfound confidence and compassion for others as well as many social-emotional skills. We encourage constant exploration in both overt and subtle ways as the kids share their creativity with one another and gain inspiration in the same way.

This week, 6-year-old Isaac asked his Accra camp friends whether they’d like to see the best drawing he’s ever drawn yet. Before showing his drawing to his camp friends, he expressed that it was his most expensive drawing, suggesting it was valuable not only to himself but also would be to others. We hadn’t even seen his drawing yet but it was very clear that he worked hard and felt that his hard work paid off.

Isaac finally revealed a drawing of a warrior with his shield, sword and a banner above it saying “You are a wreir” (sic). He’s still working on his spelling, but the message is so clear and confident that we couldn’t help but applaud him for his hard word. Isaac is not usually so upfront about how proud he feels about his drawings, but his faith in himself and in the powerful message of his drawing was such an inspiring moment for all of us in camp Accra.

TaleTree considers it very important to show support and care for others, but we also see the value in showing support and love for ourselves as well. It’s a healthy way to celebrate our strengths, not so much in a boastful way but in a way that nurtures deeper creativity and self-confidence in a healthy way.
