Creating Characters
Characters
Everyone at TaleTree has a favorite character whether it be from a movie, a game, a video, or just online. We get to see new characters everyday, and we are constantly learning about our TaleTree friends’ favorite ones. This week, we learned a lot about Sanrio characters. There are over 450 Sanrio characters that have been created. A very popular one that many of the kids like is Cinnamoroll. One of our camp kids, Makayla, used the character of Cinnamoroll and turned her into a girl. She has very similar features and characteristics, but rather than being a dog, she is now a person.
A lot of our kids recreate their favorite characters. They love to draw them, but they always add a twist, and make the art piece more unique to represent their art style. Another one of our camp members, Sasha, creates characters weekly. She is a big fan of Pretty Cure, and recreates a lot of characters from the franchise. This month, she did a coloring page of one of the pretty cure characters, using the color scheme from a different character. We love to see how they can add their own creativity and art style to their recreations. Grace, another one of our members also loves to draw characters. She comes up with many of her own characters, giving them unique hairstyles and clothing. It is amazing to see how their imagination works. We are always blown away at how they are able to create so many beautiful pieces without looking at anything for reference, or without being inspired by something.
Another thing our campers do with characters is they create stories based on them. Yeonju often draws people or animals in certain settings. She always has a little story attached to her characters that allow for us to better get to know them. Being able to create a story based on your creation makes it more lively, and allows for the viewer to better understand the art piece that has been created. It also helps to give the characters a name. It shows they have spent time thinking about their creation, and that they are proud of their work.
Anthropomorphism
Anthropomorphism is a tough word to say! It means you make non-human things like humans. What would you like to turn into a human?
Pokémon
So many of our friends love Pokémon. There are 18 different types of Pokémon and 922 species of them. Draw or make some of your favorite ones, or create a new type of Pokémon!! ;)
Spooky Halloween
Halloween will be here in a few weeks! Many of us love Halloween and spooky stories. What is your spooky story that still creeps you out?
Monsters, cute or scary?
Yeonju's monsters are so cute and friendly. Can you add on more monsters or turn them into scary ones?
A Bag of Happiness
Sophia created a bag of happiness but not all of them are good fortunes. Calming, loving, great eye sight, lots of pee, worries.... What would be in your bag of fortunes?
